Who We Are

The OPC Community Garden started in 2011 as a partnership between the Opequon Presbyterian Church, the Highland Food Pantry, and Hedgebrook Farm. Since then, the OPC Community Garden has donated an excess of 10,000 pounds of fresh, organic fruits and vegetables to Highland Food Pantry and the food insecure in our community. After 10 years at Hedgebrook Farm, the garden was moved to church grounds and took on a new name. The name OPC Roots & Shoots was decided upon based on John 15:5. We are rooted in God’s love, and as we reach out to the community in all of our endeavors to lift our brothers and sisters in Christ, God’s love flows through us. The new garden has helped expand our outreach to positively impact more individuals and families in our community.

What We Do

The OPC Roots and Shoots garden brings together members of our community to grow various fruits and vegetables for the food insecure in our area. Volunteers water, weed, maintain the garden, and harvest produce weekly. The produce is then donated to the Highland Food Pantry and the Sherando Food Pantry.
