Volunteer: The Clermont Foundation Day of Caring 2025Clermont Farm – Day of Caring Projects Clermont Farm is a historic site in Berryville, Virginia, dedicated to preserving agricultural and cultural heritage through education, conservation, and community engagement. As part of our mission, we are seeking volunteers to help with two hands-on preservation and maintenance projects that will directly support our public programming and stewardship of this important historic property. Project 1: Slave Quarters Cleanup Volunteers will assist with the interior and exterior cleaning of Clermont’s historic Slave Quarters, an important structure used for educational interpretation. Interior tasks include sweeping, vacuuming, and washing the floors, walls, and ceiling to remove dust and cobwebs, as well as using a shop vacuum to clean the attic stairs, flooring, and between the rafters. Exterior tasks include cleaning and polishing the interpretive signage and weeding the gravel drainage area surrounding the building. This project will help preserve an important part of Clermont’s history and ensure the space remains safe and welcoming for public tours and educational programming. Project 2: Historic Clermont Curtilage Clean-Up Volunteers will help maintain the landscape surrounding Clermont’s historic main house, which dates from 1756 to 1971 and serves as a central feature of the farm’s public interpretation. Tasks include weed eating along fence rows, around trees, and at the base of historic buildings; clearing small branches and debris from the grounds; and trimming grass and overgrowth along the main driveway. This project supports the preservation and presentation of Clermont’s historic core, ensuring it remains accessible, attractive, and safe for visitors and community events.
