Who We Are
Love to NIC was created in memory of my son, Nic. NIC also stands for Nurture, Inspire, Comfort, this what we provide to the homeless. Helping homeless across America…these are not simply words; they are a mother’s words to live by every single day. A mother’s mission and promise to her son, who left this world entirely too soon. A son, like so many other children and adults who suffer with demons of mental health and homelessness. It could be anyone’s child – yours or mine. THOUSANDS of our children (including our veterans) are homeless and are plagued with schizophrenia, bi-polar, or any number of mental health related conditions. Every single one of them deserves to be cared for, to feel cared for, and to know they are not alone in whatever they are battling. Every single person needs people who care and love them.
What We Do
Love to supports the local Winchester homeless:
- Monthly Meals: Provides meals on a monthly basis to the homeless in Winchester, VA. Each meal provides a protein, vegetable, starch, fruit, dessert, pop, water, and a bag of candy with a G-rated joke in Nic’s memory (he was the king of corny jokes and would tell anyone who’d listen). Holly and volunteers go out of their way to make connections and get to know the people they serve.
- Christmas: Talks to the homeless and asks for a wish list. Requests are for necessities like jeans, winter coats, boots, sweats, or thermals – things most of us take for granted. Each person receives one hand wrapped gift and card. It’s apparent that most of them haven’t received a gift in many years and the gratitude of smiles and hugs confirms they know someone cares for them and is here to help, which is the Love to NIC mission.
- Adhoc Requests: Creating relationships with local non-profits has resulted in more adhoc requests for items for the homeless such as, non-slip shoes, steel-toe boots, winter coats, rain jackets, thermals, and shoes.
